What is a Recipe?

Recipes are the mix of ingredients or feedstocks. Recipes provide a snapshot of key quality metrics like carbon-to-nitrogen ratio, mix moisture, bulk density, and origin.

The calculations incorporated within the AEYD Recipes stem from the Washington State University-Puyallup (WSU) compost mixture calculator, developed by Andy Bary and Craig Cogger. Further upgrades were made by Cary Oshins, CREF, and Jorge Montezuma, PE, with troubleshooting conducted by Loi Chau, BAAMQD.

Recipes contribute to your Environmental Impact.

      • View 'Suggested' Ingredients by selecting "Suggested"

    • Add Ingredients to the Recipe by clicking on the button

  3. Recipe Mix

    • Quality metrics of the Recipe mix based on the Ingredients parts/gallons:

      • Mix C:N

        • Recipe carbon-to-nitrogen ratio

        • Target is 20:1 - 40:1

      • Mix Moisture

        • Recipe mix moisture

        • Target is 40-60%

      • Bulk Density

        • Recipe bulk density

        • Target is 700 - 1,000 lbs/cy

    • Mix your Recipe Mix by modifying the Parts, Weight, Composition (C:N, Moisture, Bulk Density)

      • Parts are the volume of the ingredient (cubic yards)

      • Weight is the weight of volume (pounds)

      • Composition is the Carbon, Nitrogen, C:N, Moisture Content and Bulk Density. When modified the Ingredient is marked with a blue dot indicating that it has been modified from its original composition

    • No. Buckets

      • When bucket size is selected, the number of buckets based on volume (cubic yards) is calculated and displayed

  4. Description

    • Text description of the Recipe
