Welcome to Compost Recipe AEYD
Compost Recipe AEYD (Aggregate and Explain Your Data) is a tool used for calculating the Carbon to Nitrogen ratio (C:N), Moisture, and Bulk Density on an analysis of feedstocks and proportions of a given Recipe.

2. Key Concepts
Compost Recipe AEYD assists users in developing composting Recipes for process control. By using the Compost Recipe AEYD Calculator, Site Operators can better manage pathogen inactivation, processing times, product quality, and reduce the risk of malodor. This document is for Compost Operators, Compost Site Owners, Compost Scientists, or anyone managing the composting process at a composting site.
Compost Recipe AEYD allows you to calculate the:
Volume, weight and number of buckets of material
Gallons of water
Resulting recipe Mix
Carbon to Nitrogen ratio (C:N)
Moisture Content
Bulk Density
The calculations are based on the analysis of default feedstocks or using your own feedstocks and mixture proportions.
KPIs
KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) indicate the health of a compost Recipe. Standard Compost Recipe AEYD KPIs include:

Carbon
C:N
Moisture Content
Nitrogen
Mix
The Mix results of a Recipe can be found at the bottom of the "Create Recipe" page. Mix results are categorized by the following:
Mix C:N
Mix Moisture
Bulk Density
Compost Recipe AEYD provides target ranges for each "Results" category:
Mix C:N Target Range: 20:1 - 40:1
Mix Moisture Target Range: 40% - 65%
Bulk Density Target Range: 700 - 1,000 lb/cy
If Results fall outside of the indicated range, the Results will show up red. Results within the range will be green. To change your results from red to green, manipulate the Ingredient types and amounts until you reach a Recipe within the optimal range.
Ingredient Suggestion
If your Mix results are outside for the target, the calculator will look for ingredients in the library that might bring your mix back to target and suggest them to you. When suggestions are found, a "Suggestions" chip will appear which can be clicked on to view a list of the suggestions.
3. Sample Calculator
Before creating a Compost Recipe AEYD account, you can use the Sample Calculator.
To sample a Recipe, use the Ingredient Menu to add ingredients to your Mix. Search ingredients by clicking on the magnifying glass icon, or filter ingredients by clicking on "Ingredient Types". Click on the plus icon to add ingredients, green check marks indicate ingredients currently in your Mix.
Once you have your list of Ingredients, you can modify the parts, weight and composition (C:N, Moisture, Bulk Density) of each Ingredient by clicking on the pencil icon. Click on the down carat next to "No. Buckets" to select a bucket size. When a bucket size is selected, the number of buckets is calculated.
4. Create Account
To create an account, click "Create Account" and enter in the requested information. Please note, the form is currently case sensitive.
Once you click "Create" and the submission is successful, a pop up message at the bottom of your screen will ask you to verify your account through the email you used to create the account. If you do not receive a verification email within five minutes, please check your spam folder.
A successful verification will allow you to create your password.
5. Dashboard
After you click "Submit", you will have access to your Compost Recipe AEYD Dashboard where you can create and view Recipes and Ingredients.
6. Create Recipes
To create a Recipe, click on the "+ Create" button on the upper right part of the navigation bar and select "Recipe", or click "Create" from the dashboard. On this page, you will name your Recipe, identify the source, and add a description.
Use the Ingredient Menu to add ingredients to your Mix. Search ingredients by clicking on the magnifying glass icon, or filter ingredients by clicking on "Ingredient Types". Click on the plus icon to add ingredients, green check marks indicate ingredients currently in your Mix.

When your Recipe is complete, click "Create".
7. Create Ingredients
To create an Ingredient, select "Ingredient" from "+ Create" menu on the upper right side of the navigation bar, or navigate back to the Dashboard, and click on "Create" under Ingredients.
